ABOUT THE WORK

Grillo is part of a series created by the author in the early 1970s. His early work was influenced by Pablo Picasso and was characterized by the assembly of scrap pieces. It was exhibited in 1975 at the National Museum of Costa Rica, after which the artist decided to donate it to the institution. In 2024 the work will be exhibited again in the location where it was displayed for years, in the garden of the Bellavista headquarters.

ABOUT THE CRICKETS

The Grillo sculpture by José Sancho invites us to reflect on the greatness of the world of insects, establishing a bridge between aesthetic and scientific appreciation.

Crickets are usually nocturnal insects that exhibit colors and shapes that resemble their surroundings, allowing them to effectively camouflage themselves during the day when they are inactive. They have long antennae and males have organs on their wings, which allow them to produce essential sounds for courting females and communicating.
